How to Analyze Text (a Book)

1. Read and reread with specific questions in mind.

2. Arrange basic ideas, events, and names. Depending on the complexity of the book, this may require additional review of the text.

3. Think through your personal reaction to the book.
  • Did you identify with the story or character(s) in the book?
  • To what degree did you enjoy the story?
  • How meaningful was the story?

4. Identify and consider the most important ideas.

5. Return to the text to locate specific evidence or passages from the text
related to the major ideas.
